Upper East Side Story

Tonight saw the long awaited return of my favourite show on TV, Gossip Girl. In homage of this landmark occasion I have chosen a few of my front runners in the fashion stakes from seasons gone by... You know you love them, xoxo

Oh Coachella!

The infamous Californian music festival is renowned for its vast choice of bands and artists (headlining this year, Kanye West, Arcade Fire and Kings of Leon to name but a few) but also for its fashion. Coachella is always swarmed with style savvy celebs, and this year is no exception. Between them I think its safe to say they have got every season trend covered, Diane is channeling the 70s boho, Alexa and Whitney have got the LWD (little white dress) covered, Isabel Lucas is very on trend with the pastel hue maxi and snaps for Camilla Belle showing off a little broderie anglaise detailing. Good job girls!

Lady In Red

Gossip Girl actress Blake Lively wowed crowds in Las Vegas with her, as ever, epic wardrobe choice and never-ending legs, for the annual CinemaCon Convention at the Caesars Palace Hotel. She was wearing the most amazing embroidered crimson silk, ruffled delight from the one and only Marchesa collection. Adding to this enchanting outfit, were multi coloured Brian Atwood heels. Just beautiful. To top the night off Blake didn’t walk away empty handed, she picked up the Breakthrough Performer of the Year award. Go Blake!

A 'Vogue' Idea

Can you believe that Grace Coddington, the creative genius behind the US Vogue fashion shoots has just turned 70? No, me neither. Grace, with her gutsy opinions and signature flaming red hair came out from behind the scenes in the intriguing documentary ‘The September Issue’ (a movie which I could sit and watch daily), outshining Ms Wintour, the leading lady. She is responsible for the photo shoot spreads in the magazing, dreaming up fantasy worlds and bringing them to life. She takes photography to another level and captures the reader. Another gift that Grace boasts is the ability to make Anna Wintour change her mind, a huge accomplishment, which stems from a lifetime of their love/hate relationship.

Grace was born in Anglesey, Wales. She started modeling after winning a competition, then got in to British Vogue, and worked her way up from a Junior Editor, and well, the rest is history. She has spent 50 years in an industry that is probably the most fierce, and is one of, if not, the most influential figure in the fashion world.

Grace is a visionary, she has the skill to create what other people couldn’t even dream up in their heads. She is famous for producing the most stunning and detailed pages of fashion editorials, I dread to think what would happen when she decided to retire from it all. But lets try not think about that, instead feast your eyes on some of her finest shoots...

Oh and a Happy belated Birthday to you Gracey!

Here comes the Summer...

Tomorrow marks the first bbq of the season for me, bit ambitious I know seeming as it is only April. To celebrate this joyous milestone I’ve picked out my perfect outfit. French Connection have got some beautys in for the S/S season, I’m loving this animal print dress, it’s ideal to throw on with a pair of loafers for a wander round town by day and then you can dress it up with a stack of gold bangles and these 70s inspired chunky platform sandals for those long summer evenings. There’s only one thing left, bring on the pimms...

Queen of the High Street

First it was Alexa, then there was Miquita and now it’s Jameela who is still going strong carrying the T4 fashion batton, and doesn’t she do it well. She’s been on our screens for a while now and never, ever, ever disappoints with her outfits. She is the best dressed lady on TV, and is famous for styling herself. Despite her high profile she is proud to be Queen of the Highstreet, officially my fashion crush of the moment.

I have recently become a teeny bit obsessed with her style blog on the T4 website and love waiting to see what stunning and effortless ensemble she’ll pull off next. She is an absolute beaut and I long for her wardrobe, trademark fringe and luscious long locks. She’s come a long way from the girl-next-door, she’s still got that out spoken and down to earth sense of humour, but stardom has only intensified her offbeat outfits, and that ladies and gentlemen, is why we love her.

Louis’ got a brand new bag...

Vuitton, that is. The LV’s infamous “Speedy” bag has been seen on the arm of many a style icon for decades, from Audrey to Aggy. So it came as no surprise to hear that the lady fronting the launch of the updated version, the “Bandoulière”, is super stylish FROWer (fashion show front-row resident) Caroline Sieber. And who could be more perfect to head a campaign for such an influential and luxury fashion house. The “Bandoulière”, which literally translated means worn across the shoulder, features the timeless monogram print and additional shoulder strap. It is available in four sizes and already set to be an instant sell out when it arrives in stores on May 1st. If your looking to splurge on a classic piece that will never go out of style, then you’ve just found it.

Making a StyleMint

Our favourite pint sized twosome, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, have ventured on a new project combining the ever growing e-commerce industry and fashion. The new endeavor named “StyleMint” is a fashion based website, which takes in to account the users individual style and personality, and each month entitles you to a new tee-shirt, designed by the pair and to suit your style. The first collection will sell for $29.99 and is portrayed as an affordable fashion club.

“Online commerce is the perfect medium for us to create a new brand that is as much about the clothing as it is about the customer experience.”
- Ashley Olsen

Eventually, as the site takes off it hopes to introduce knitwear and other items. Following their other famously successful fashion lines, The Row, Elizabeth and James and Olsenboye, there is no doubt that this will be a hugely successful venture... where do I sign up?

The not-so Grand National!

Well done ladies, you didn't disappoint! There were some stunning choices of outfits showcased at Aintree today and some that were, well, just plain scary. As promised here's a few of my faves along with my list of Do's and Don'ts...

-Do don a sheer maxi, its the way forward.
-Do take note of Coleen’s coordinatiing outfit, she is Queen WAG after all.
-Do take a seat on the grass in the sun to rest your feet while the men stand and melt in their metallic suits.
-Do wear a selection of Krispy Kremes on your head for a mid afternoon snack.

Friday, April 8, 2011

Firstly just DON’T and secondly don’t continue to accessorize with a plastic cup.
-Don’t take inspiration from a sweet wrapper.
-Don’t dress like Baby Annabel, complete with bib and bottle.
-Don’t take fashion advice from insects.
-Don’t accessorize with a market stall umbrella, or an oversized flasher mac.
-Don’t skimp on the outfit by wrapping your hair round your neck, that’s not an accessory.
-Don’t get your ‘tats’ out for the lads, it’s really not a good look.
-Don’t feel your ‘too cool’ to dress up and go for the casual approach, especially when it involves this crazy ensemble.

And finally, don’t I repeat, don’t get your baps out on the track, you’ll scare the horses!

Lets play dress up!

Coleen and the gals were out in force today at Aintree, and you could almost hear the unified rejoicing and sighs of relief as the clouds cleared and the sun arrived. It got me thinking, if an invitation to such an event happened to land on my door mat (I’d hope it would be something a bit more exclusive, the Guards Polo maybe?) and if money was no option, what on earth would I wear? Well luckily net-a-porter has saved my hypothetical day, phew!

Less is more?! Not at Aintree.

It’s that time of year again, the weekend that Liverpool’s finest wannabe WAGs spend they’re year on the sunbeds for....yep, you guessed it, the Grand National, and even more importantly, Ladies Day. Traditionally at Aintree, Ladies Day is held the day before the big race. It’s famous for the most stylish race-goer competition held there each year, prizes include £5,000 cash and a luxury Caribbean holiday, aka a real tan and five grands worth of Juicy tracksuits, not bad! However, aside from the typical stereotype, there are a large percentage of women who yes, have spent the whole morning in rollers and spent the day before being Fake Baked but look simply stunning. And then ofcourse there’s the other half of ‘mutton dressed as lamb’, who lets admit it, we have to thank for providing our entertainment in that evenings Echo.

Even the high street is getting in the swing of things, River Island have a life size horse greeting their shoppers and mannequins dressed in the latest season trends, complete with helmets and crops.

Every year I look forward to seeing the extravagant millinery and what the masses are wearing... this year is no different... I’ll keep you posted with my favourite looks, the good, the bad and the ugly.

My Big Fat Royal Wedding

It seems that the entire British population is a little bit obsessed with this months Royal Wedding. Everywhere you look there are commemorative mugs, plates, travel mints, biscuits, heck there's even a double fridge freezer with the happy couples face plastered all over it. I'm not complaining, in fact I'm loving the abundance of Union Jacks and tacky souvenirs, any excuse to cover a house in bunting, drink copious cups of tea and eat Kate and Wills pies (yes they do exist), all whilst waiting in anticipation to see which dress the lucky gal chooses is alright by me!

But this has got to be one of my favourite finds yet, and no, its not as hilarious as the "Knit your own Royal Family Wedding" book or as naff (in a good way) as the Will's and Kate shot glasses, but I kinda liked it anyway.

Whistle's get 'Carried' away!

This time last year everyone was ooohing and ahhhing at Carrie Preston née Bradshaw’s SATC 2 wardrobe, in particular the fun and flirty pleated Halston number. A year on Whistles have taken inspiration from this iconic dress and created a skirt, aptly named the “Carrie” which is set to be the must have item of the season. Already, the skirt (which is available in 2 lengths, midi and knee) has sold out nationwide. Since the rush Whistles have commissioned another batch and and introduced 2 new colours, and highlighter blue and yellow, both trending shades this season.

* What would Carrie do.... She'd wear with a tucked in tee like this Alexander McQueen sequined jersey and these Michael Kors sandals for a quirky day time look, and for evening pair it with these stunning Dior heels, ofcourse.

Making a fash splash!

Q. Which fashion house could take a Parisian swimming pool est 1953 and transform it in to 1,400 square metres of a fashionistas paradise?

A. Hermès, ofcourse.

The store is located in 17 Rue de Sèvres in the flashy Saint-Germain-des-Prés neighborhood in Paris. The original mosaic floor tiles steer the shoppers round this luxury store. Then there's the giant organic wooden sculptures adding a modern twist to the fantasy setting, whilst the wrought iron art deco railings frame the space, paying homage to the once, Lutetia pool. The perfect backdrop to showcase Hermès classics...

I'd do a few lengths in that any day!
