D is for Diamonds

Diamonds seem to have been the underlying theme for the week. Most obvious ofcourse was our lovely Queen celebrating 60 years on the throne, plunging the country in to jubilee -ous jubilations. Britain went bunting crazy, 9,000 roads were closed for street parties and my oh my did the Pimms flow. Whether your a royalist, or just thankful for the extra days holiday, it really is a time when your proud to be British. On the other side of the pond were diamond celebrations of a different kind. Mark Zuckerberg the trillionaire and brains of Facebook married his long term girlfriend Pricilla Chan. It was a very low key affair, even the guests didn’t know they were attending a wedding. Until they caught a glimpse of Zuckerberg donning a suit and tie rather than his usual signature hoodie and jeans combo, they thought they were celebrating Pricilla’s graduation from medical school. The couple hosted a simple, no fuss ceremony, the bride walked down the aisle with her adorable sheepdog named Beast, in a dress from little know designer Claire Pettibone. They ate sushi and fairy lights lit up their understated venue, their back garden, which granted is probably more impressive than your average, but that’s not the point. The point is it was honest and perfect. It’s no secret that Zuckerberg is worth a fortune, but how refreshing to see a wedding where money is no object, when infact money wasn’t the object in this at all.

Best In Show

Best Dressed lists are littering the pages in every glossy at the moment, counting down the finest fashionistas to reveal who is worthy of sporting the fashion crown. I decided to compile my very own list. My criteria was simple, who is the most striking at the big events, not afraid to mix it up a bit and looks just as effortlessly chic during the day, when the line of paps aren’t flashing away! After careful consideration, scrolling through blog after blog and flicking through more magazines than you can imagine, I finally came up with my top 9 front runners...

At #1 Olivia Palermo 2 Caroline Sieber 3 Jameela Jamil 4 Rachel Bilson 5 Diane Kruger 6 Fearne Cotton 7 Alexa Chung, 8 Sarah Jessica Parker 9 Isabel Lucas

Because We Cannes

It’s that time of year again, where the creme de la creme of A listers flock to the French riviera for the annual Cannes Film Festival. The fashion stakes are always high at said event, but this year for me it was Rachel McAdams who stole the show. By day Rachel wore a crisp, white Maxime Simoens number, trimmed with camellia flowers on the shoulders and pockets. By night she stepped out in a ruby silk Marchesa AW 11 dress with illusion cap sleeves and tulle skirt. And extra brownie points for Rach as she ditched the conforming frock on the red carpet and opted for the high waisted trouser and bustier combo, from Monique Lhuillier. Simply stunning.

Pretty Pleats

I was casually flicking through a copy of Glamour whilst on the train to London yesterday, when I came across this picture of starlet Amanda Seyfried. I instantly fell in L.O.V.E with the dress! Grape is very on trend for the season, French Connection have got a beautiful selection in a splinter line off their SS11. The horizontal pleats are a fresh approach, so many designers are sticking to vertical, so it’s a welcomed change to the season. The jeweled collar is the icing on the cake and enough to make Olivia Palermo a little green-eyed!

As I strolled down Mount Street I cast an eye in Lanvin window and what did I see...The Dress! Did I buy it? Ofcourse I didn’t, its probably more that half a years rent. I did however gaze in, head tipped slightly to one side and wished very very hard that I’d win the euromillions. I didn’t *tear*.

Oh Coachella!

The infamous Californian music festival is renowned for its vast choice of bands and artists (headlining this year, Kanye West, Arcade Fire and Kings of Leon to name but a few) but also for its fashion. Coachella is always swarmed with style savvy celebs, and this year is no exception. Between them I think its safe to say they have got every season trend covered, Diane is channeling the 70s boho, Alexa and Whitney have got the LWD (little white dress) covered, Isabel Lucas is very on trend with the pastel hue maxi and snaps for Camilla Belle showing off a little broderie anglaise detailing. Good job girls!

Lady In Red

Gossip Girl actress Blake Lively wowed crowds in Las Vegas with her, as ever, epic wardrobe choice and never-ending legs, for the annual CinemaCon Convention at the Caesars Palace Hotel. She was wearing the most amazing embroidered crimson silk, ruffled delight from the one and only Marchesa collection. Adding to this enchanting outfit, were multi coloured Brian Atwood heels. Just beautiful. To top the night off Blake didn’t walk away empty handed, she picked up the Breakthrough Performer of the Year award. Go Blake!

A 'Vogue' Idea

Can you believe that Grace Coddington, the creative genius behind the US Vogue fashion shoots has just turned 70? No, me neither. Grace, with her gutsy opinions and signature flaming red hair came out from behind the scenes in the intriguing documentary ‘The September Issue’ (a movie which I could sit and watch daily), outshining Ms Wintour, the leading lady. She is responsible for the photo shoot spreads in the magazing, dreaming up fantasy worlds and bringing them to life. She takes photography to another level and captures the reader. Another gift that Grace boasts is the ability to make Anna Wintour change her mind, a huge accomplishment, which stems from a lifetime of their love/hate relationship.

Grace was born in Anglesey, Wales. She started modeling after winning a competition, then got in to British Vogue, and worked her way up from a Junior Editor, and well, the rest is history. She has spent 50 years in an industry that is probably the most fierce, and is one of, if not, the most influential figure in the fashion world.

Grace is a visionary, she has the skill to create what other people couldn’t even dream up in their heads. She is famous for producing the most stunning and detailed pages of fashion editorials, I dread to think what would happen when she decided to retire from it all. But lets try not think about that, instead feast your eyes on some of her finest shoots...

Oh and a Happy belated Birthday to you Gracey!

Here comes the Summer...

Tomorrow marks the first bbq of the season for me, bit ambitious I know seeming as it is only April. To celebrate this joyous milestone I’ve picked out my perfect outfit. French Connection have got some beautys in for the S/S season, I’m loving this animal print dress, it’s ideal to throw on with a pair of loafers for a wander round town by day and then you can dress it up with a stack of gold bangles and these 70s inspired chunky platform sandals for those long summer evenings. There’s only one thing left, bring on the pimms...

Queen of the High Street

First it was Alexa, then there was Miquita and now it’s Jameela who is still going strong carrying the T4 fashion batton, and doesn’t she do it well. She’s been on our screens for a while now and never, ever, ever disappoints with her outfits. She is the best dressed lady on TV, and is famous for styling herself. Despite her high profile she is proud to be Queen of the Highstreet, officially my fashion crush of the moment.

I have recently become a teeny bit obsessed with her style blog on the T4 website and love waiting to see what stunning and effortless ensemble she’ll pull off next. She is an absolute beaut and I long for her wardrobe, trademark fringe and luscious long locks. She’s come a long way from the girl-next-door, she’s still got that out spoken and down to earth sense of humour, but stardom has only intensified her offbeat outfits, and that ladies and gentlemen, is why we love her.
