The Ear and Now

Earlier this month animation giant Disney and the US department store Barneys collaborated on the launch of a cartoon short film for the festive season, Electric Holidays. In homage to everyones favourite cartoon mouse SJP donned a pair of ears as she, and Minnie herself introduced the film. Who knew ears could be so on trend.

Who Run The World?

Beyonce posted a photo of herself wearing Mary Katrantzou, renowned for her vivid graphics, I couldn’t think of a better muse for such a bold label, just imagine the possible collaboration, girl power doesn’t come close.

Sheer Delight

From the luscious green backdrop of the CFDAs, to the red carpeted Twilight premieres ‘sheer’ is making a bold presence this season. Sheer fabrics and silk have the ability to soften an outfit when teamed with girly pastels and a flirty form, but can easily do a 180, illustrated by K Stew below who has vamped up the trend, making a strong and sexy statement. I am a huge advocate of the demure sheer look, more sophisticated than baring all, showing off just enough flesh to not be put in the same camp as Ms K Price. It’s all over the high street and perfect for the party season ahead... Let’s all cheer for sheer.

Oh Hello Camo

Today marks the start of Autumn, well for me anyway. Today I bought my first AW12 wardrobe staple... a camo jacket. That’s right kids, camo is back, and it’s everywhere. It was all over the catwalks and it’s hitting down on the high street in all shapes and forms, from womenswear to menswear, jackets to wallets, you name it, it’s been camo-ed! I invested in the Topshop jacket, it’s an easy wear, ideal for autumn but also makes a great transitional piece, perfect to throw on over a summer dress on a August evening, with denim shorts and a tee at a festival, or with a chunky knit and boots as we verge in to the A/W season. There are so many ways to wear it, and the best thing is that it instantly brings every outfit up to date. Trends like this come and go, but rumour has it camo is planning on sticking around, it still has a huge presence in SS13 collections... my tip is to blend in with your surroundings this season and go camo.

Make a Statement

So the British Summer is coming to a close it seems, question is, was it ever here at all? But fear not, Zara, the high street genius that they are have kicked off their aw12 season with a dazzling new accessories range that could brighten up any day or old grey tee! It’s the perfect payday pick me up, with prices ranging from £15.99- £30 there’s more fluro and pearls than you could shake a stick at! Team them with plains or patterns, wear them casual or dressy, these are investment pieces that certainly won’t break the bank.

Who's That Girl.

The small silver screen has been crying out for a new style icon since Carrie threw in her Manolos. Enter the eponymous New Girl, who is on her way to inheriting that role. Played by the cool and quirky Zooey Deschanel, her character Jess Day is a hillarious, kooky school teacher who bursts in to song in any/awkward situations and loves to rock a polkadot. Miss Day doesn’t seem to follow the trends, she dresses in what looks good on her, figure flattering fifties style shapes, delicate, floaty tea dresses and follows the moto ‘the brighter the better’. And with each flirty outfit framed by her trademark chunky fringe and wavy locks, it’s the glossy icing on a well styled cake.

D is for Diamonds

Diamonds seem to have been the underlying theme for the week. Most obvious ofcourse was our lovely Queen celebrating 60 years on the throne, plunging the country in to jubilee -ous jubilations. Britain went bunting crazy, 9,000 roads were closed for street parties and my oh my did the Pimms flow. Whether your a royalist, or just thankful for the extra days holiday, it really is a time when your proud to be British. On the other side of the pond were diamond celebrations of a different kind. Mark Zuckerberg the trillionaire and brains of Facebook married his long term girlfriend Pricilla Chan. It was a very low key affair, even the guests didn’t know they were attending a wedding. Until they caught a glimpse of Zuckerberg donning a suit and tie rather than his usual signature hoodie and jeans combo, they thought they were celebrating Pricilla’s graduation from medical school. The couple hosted a simple, no fuss ceremony, the bride walked down the aisle with her adorable sheepdog named Beast, in a dress from little know designer Claire Pettibone. They ate sushi and fairy lights lit up their understated venue, their back garden, which granted is probably more impressive than your average, but that’s not the point. The point is it was honest and perfect. It’s no secret that Zuckerberg is worth a fortune, but how refreshing to see a wedding where money is no object, when infact money wasn’t the object in this at all.
